Blues Music News

Megan Blue has been singing and performing for over a decade, and holds a Master’s Degree in Vocal Performance.  She has performed many beloved opera and musical theater roles.  While in college in New Orleans, she performed with many of the great players of the city, namely Johnny Vidacovich and John Mahoney, and was invited to sing at the world famous New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival in 2001.  After years of singing and performing, Megan decided it was time to branch out and start writing her own music.  She found her partner in crime last year, the Southern Gentleman, Kentre Ventress Battles.

Tree has been writing and performing his own poetry since 2004, when he won first place in the Florida Poetry Slam competition.  He has toured and performed with some of the best musicians in the country, including Mark Gibson and Stewart and Winfield.  He has worked in festival production and management and has helped with the creation of two of the biggest music events in the South; The Voodoo Music festival, and The Essence Music Festival.

Megan and Kentre started playing together last year in New Orleans.  It started as a front porch jam, but when they attracted the attention of all the neighborhood children across the street, who were cheering and stomping for more, they decided to go big.

Megan Blue’s sultry, powerful, hypnotic voice, along with Kentre’s soulful southern unique approach to guitar make for one of the most exciting, dynamic, and captivating duets around.  They bring back the true artistry and essence of the greatest folk, blues, country and gospel singers of yesterday.

They now have a full band behind them, including the up-and-coming dynamic Cliff Hines on lead guitar, Evan Scott, who is one of the most promising young drummers in New Orleans, Matt Whitcomb on slide guitar, who we like to call the Derek Trucks of NOLA, and the veteran musician Red Devecca, who has played with all the New Orleans greats on stand-up Bass.
The Blue Trees have just cut their first EP that will include tracks off of their debut album, ‘The Rebirth of Blue’  featuring ‘Stillwaters’ and ‘Two to Tango’ as heard on several radio programs.  Their sound is a beautiful blend of all different styles of music; including blues, funk, rock, and Americana. They have just finished raising $5,000 to record their new album, and will be going into the studio in June.
Since they have been back in New Orleans this past fall, they have been a part of some great events, including ‘Ladyfest’ and the ‘JaxMusicfest’.  They toured in January 2012 for The Sundance Film Festival to play  ‘Orion Independent Music Festival’.
The Blue Trees are very excited to be playing two festivals in April- The Freret Street Art Festival on April 7th, and the world-renowned Festival International in Lafayette, LA on April 26 &27.
